Easingwold District Lions Club
who are we?
Easingwold District Lions have been at the heart of Easingwold and Villages community since 1978 and we have been serving our area ever since.
We are all proud to be part of the largest volunteering organisation in the world – Lions International. With 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members, we can truly be called a global network of people with similar ideas to our own.
We are also proud to get involved in many initiatives to help our local community, including supporting local groups such as Easingwold Football Club juniors, much needed furniture for local Schools & community halls, supporting local families with disabled children etc. We also arrange local health screening initiatives such as for diabeties & Prostate Cancer.
To support those further afield, we have placed spectacle recycling boxes in our library, Boots & the Coop supermarket so that they can be reused by people in the third world.
We are internationally one of the most effective voluntary organisations with member clubs in every area affected by disaster or requiring need. That way clubs can tell us exactly what is needed before the large aid agencies have acted. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. You could get involved too if you would like to join us!
Why are we called Lions?
Our name was not selected at random, neither was it a coined name. From time immemorial, the lion has been the symbol of all that was good, and because of the symbolism that name was chosen. Four outstanding qualities – Courage, Strength, Activity and Fidelity – had largely to do with the adoption of the name. The last mentioned of these qualities, Fidelity, has a deep and peculiar significance for all Lions. The lion symbol has been a symbol of Fidelity through the ages and among all nations, ancient and modern. It stands for loyalty to a friend, loyalty to a principle, loyalty to a duty, loyalty to a trust.

► We are repeating the highly successul grants program once again during 2024!
► We are holding a number of visits to Easingwold Friday Market with a stall - first date will be Friday March 15, where we will be collecting your used specs & hearing aids, selling our preloved books and holding a raffle for one of our Giant Easter Eggs! Why not call in on us and see what we do!
►We are going to host a Defibrillator and CPR Training session at the Galtres Centre on April 18th 2024 at 7.00pm
►We currently holding a raffle for 14 (!) Giant Easter Eggs at locations around our area to raise additional funds - see our Easter Egg page for more details!

EASINGWOLD LIONS SUCCESS WITH NEW
GRANTS PROGRAMME

Easingwold & District Lions are pleased to announce that we have made available a number of grants of up to £500 to chosen local causes.
These included volunteer groups and individuals, child services, schools and many more. The purpose of the grants were to assist in the provision of community services, purchase or replace much needed equipment, sports kits, special needs groups, community based projects, child nurseries etc etc.
In fact we considered a wide range of applications that needed a funding injection of up to £500!
We are proud to be able to offer this programme into our communities as a way of saying thank you to all who supported our Santa Sleigh and other fund raising events with your generous donations.
Our area covers : Aldwark, Alne, Brafferton, Brandsby, Crayke, Coxwold, Easingwold, Flawith, Helperby, Huby, Husthwaite, Linton on Ouse, Myton, Newton on Ouse, Raskelf, Shipton by Benningborough, Skelton, Stllington, Sutton on the Forest, Tholthorpe and Tollerton.

Lions work hard throughout the year to provide as much aid and service to our local communities as we can and give help to disaster relief world wide. We are extremely proud of the fulfilling work that we do and we would warmly welcome more people to join our Club.
